Description
comments can't be edited and don't update the "last updated" value or say there are comments- bug or design?
Problem one- In groups and in general, pages only show they were updated when the main page was edited, not when comments are made. This makes the pages content look outdated or like it has not been touched even when there are comments
solution- either add a notification or update the "last updated time" when a comment has been left. also list of total comments value would be helpful. We are using pages as assignments and then following up in comments but people are missing that a comment was left.
Bug2- Comments can not be edited, only deleted. They need to be able to be edited like in the discussion forums.
These fixes would make pages a much more usable and powerful tool for us.

Makes sense then I would add to this that comments have an option to turn off.
I figured it was by design but comments display updated when there is a comment would be really nice, not just on pages but anything that has the comment code would be nice to have comment indication/count.
Thanks for the plugin link, I will check it out.

Blogs, pages, files all use the code commenting code and right now it does not support editing comments. Doesn't mean that won't change in a future version.
The fact that comments don't updated the last updated time on a page is by design. Listing the number of comments could be useful.
One plugin that you might want to take a look at is a group activity plugin: http://community.elgg.org/pg/plugins/jonmaul/read/458332/group-river It displays the latest activity in a group which helps keeping it from looking stale. I think some part of it might be included in Elgg 1.8.
