Original ticket http://trac.elgg.org/ticket/2755 on 41003645-12-26 by trac user iionly, assigned to unknown.

Elgg version:

It seems to me that currently there's only an entry in the river when a new plugin is uploaded to the repository but not when a new version of an existing plugin is uploaded. The information about new versions would help. The alternative with notifications / following the developer seems not optimal and a lot of people might not even know about it.

Making a release of an existing plugin shows up in the river.

Strange... it doesn't work for me.

Example:

Selecting "Plugins" on the "All" Tab in the activity stream. The whole list consists of "x uploaded a new plugin y" entries and there are no entries in the form of "x released a new version of y" - such entries were there at some point in the past.

For example Jeroen Dalsem released a new version of the Widget Manager plugin 8 days ago (as of today 2011/01/01), but I don't see it listed.

While there is a River entry when a new version of a plugin is released, such entries are NOT shown when using the "Plugins" filter of the River.

Uploading a new release is using the subtype "plugin_release" so it is not being picked up by the filter for "plugin_project".

  1. This is a limitation of Elgg's river (filtering can only be done by a single subtype at a time).
  2. The easiest fix is using "plugin_project" for the subtype when a new release is made.
